Raising the Bar: Crossfit Strom Uses WODcast To Motivate Their Members

31 May

For the past couple of months, we’ve invited Crossfit Affiliates around the world to use WODcast as a tool to track the performance of their members everyday. Crossfit Strom from Houston, Texas – one of our favorite and most dedicated Crossfit Affiliates have been utilizing WODcast everyday and evangelizing our application by promoting the necessity to post the WODs and scores of their members.

They are a prime of example of a box that is truly passionate about motivating their members and always pays close attention to individual progress.  Their dedication to performance tracking by using WODcast has truly paid off – as they’ve seen their members improve on a monthly basis and boosted both attendance and membership.

We’ve asked Crossfit Strom to answer a few questions about their experience with Crossfit and how they’ve benefited greatly since using WODcast.  Check out the Q&A!

Introduce yourselves. Tell us your names, where you’re from, what CF box you represent?

Greg Heard, Rudy Lopez, Adam Longoria, Heather Heard, Crossfit Strom in Houston, TX

How did Crossfit Strom get started?

We were all Crossfitting at different gyms. We all happen to arrive at the same gym one day and Greg, Rudy and Adam had all gone to high school together. We all just started talking about how we would like to open up our own gym, closer to where we live. And that one thought turned into a reality!

We were interested in certification and skill sets that would make us stand out in our local CF community. This led our entire team to CT to attend Hybrid Athletics Strong Man Seminar with Rob Orlando and his team.  Now as part of our programming we incorporate Atlas Stones and Kegs and sometimes take away the clock. We are very appreciative of what we learned from Rob and Syn.

What made you want to start using WODcast?

We didn’t really like any of the other scoring options that were on the market. They were either too time consuming or too complicated, we wanted something simple and easy to use that would allow us to quickly enter in information and allow our clients to see how they are doing and how they compare to others.

How has WODcast been useful for your box and members?

We have our clients look at WODcast every day. They like to see who is first. Especially those that come to the early classes and don’t get to see everyone else’s scores. We know they are looking because we have had several of them say “hey I was 5 seconds faster you entered in the time wrong!”

What do you like most about WODcast?

We like WODcast’s ease of use, especially when Creating Custom WODs. You can click on an image of the movement you are doing, you don’t have to go and search for specific WODs or movements. It’s point click and go!

What do your members like most about WODcast?

That from one click they are on the main page that shows everyone’s scores. They don’t have to navigate from page to page to see what they are looking for. It’s so easy to use!  With the Public leaderboard posted on Facebook – users can click the link to view the stats for the day seamlessly without having to login.

How does WODcast compare to other CrossFit WOD Tracking apps out there?

It is a lot easier to use. On several of the others you have to try and find the specific thing you are doing. With WODcast if we are maxing out and doing a WOD we can create two separate WODs for that day. It makes it so simple to use. You click on the picture and go! And now with the new added feature of being able to type in a person’s name, it makes updating their stats that much easier!

How has using WODcast motivated your athletes?

I think that people really like seeing how they compare to others. So they will see that someone got a certain time, they will try and beat that time. It has definitely made a few of them have a more competitive drive.

Has WODcast helped you increase your membership? If so, how?

We promote WODcast on our website, Facebook and Twitter. We hope that it is helping get WODcast’s name out, as well as showing others that we take the time to put up our athletes scores so that they can know how they are improving as well as show other gyms how good our athletes are doing!

What can you tell other CF affiliates out there about the importance of keeping track of their member’sperformance?

A lot of members don’t take the time to write down their PR’s or times on different WODs and then ask us if we remember what their stats are. With WODcast it is an easy tool that will allow them to quickly look back and see how they are improving. They can see how their benchmark WOD times have gone up and see their increase in weights thanks to the notes feature. It’s an all around great tool for them and us!

What is the single biggest impact WODcast has had on your box?

That members can actually see their progress. I can go back and tell them, look you had a 30 lb PR from one month to the next. Its physical proof that they are getting better, stronger and faster!

It’s been an honor for us to have Crossfit Strom as an official WODcaster for the past couple of a months and would like to thank them for using our app  and providing us consistent feedback on how we can continuously improve as we move forward to launching very soon!  Thank you Crossfit Strom and welcome to the WODcast family!

If you live in the Houston, Texas area – drop by Crossfit Strom and become an elite athlete!
